McGeoughs Oughterard Stocks Probably the Best Chicken in The World

James McGeoughs Butchers in Oughterard is a great supporter of small food producers, the range of top class local produce the shop holds is a credit to the McGeoughs. He has been stocking our pasture chickens for well over a year, and was a great support to me when I was starting up. The reason for this is he is also a small food producer and he knows the ups and downs involved in supplying meat of superior quality on a small scale. Take a look at the video below to find out more about his Connemara Air Dried Lamb, serious, serious food. If your passing through Oughterard its worth calling in to James, as his butchery is probably one of the best around, plus as they say around here 'he is a gas man'. the Friendly Farmer Spec's Up

Heres a view of the chickens' new accommodation. It's an excellent shelter and helps cut down on the labour needs, however the original pasture pens still have a role to play on the farm. Again the key with this shelter is FRESH GRASS for the chickens at all times, which is the underlying fundamental of the pasture poultry model. It sets us apart from the free range model, which relies on access to the outside. We go one step further.........Pasture poultry = fresh grass = better taste, simple as that. For more info on the tunnel check out the nice people at Mc Gregor Polytunnels http://www.mcgregorpolytunnels.co.uk/ if contacting them look for Alasdair, what that man does not know about poultry housing would fit on the back of a postage stamp.
